About the Web Interface

Milan's administrative and Service Desk functionality is presented through a web interface.

To access the Milan web interface:

  1. Open a web browser and enter the address of the default Milan web page—typically http://<Server Name>/milan.
  2. If a Milan user has been configured for the currently logged in Windows account, the web interface will be displayed immediately; otherwise, the web browser will prompt for a user name and password.

Tabs

Milan's web interface uses a tab-based design to organize its various management tools. Access to specific tabs and functionality can be controlled at the user or group level with task permissions. See Assigning Task Permissions for more information on configuring the availability of Milan features.

Depending on your license and assigned task permissions, one or more of the following tabs will be available when you open the web interface.

Tab Allows You to
Documents Search for documents and perform various operations on one or more documents in the search results.
Workspaces Search for workspaces and perform various operations on one or more workspaces and folders in the search results.
WS Admin Manage WorkSite users, groups, and metadata.
Security Center Manage matter teams and self-service requests.

All features not available in the tabbed interface can be accessed from the Administration menu in the top right corner. See About the Administration Menu for a list of all available menu options.

All Milan users have access to the following two buttons, which are displayed in the top right corner.

Service Desk

Milan Service Desk, formerly Help Desk, provides an intuitive web interface for performing a variety of administrative tasks, including managing documents, workspaces, and users; monitoring Provisioning Service jobs; and creating and running queries on WorkSite and Milan databases.
